As part of a ministerial tour conducted in preparation for the second anniversary of the Feed Salone Programme, Henry Musa Kpaka, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, emphasized that Sierra Leone’s Rural Finance Network is strategically positioned to support the achievement of national food security. The tour formed part of government efforts to review progress, engage farmers and stakeholders, and strengthen coordination ahead of the anniversary of Feed Salone, the flagship national programme aimed at transforming agriculture and ensuring food self-sufficiency.

Rural Finance at the Center of Food Security Efforts

During engagements across the country, Dr. Kpaka underscored the critical role of rural finance in enabling farmers to expand production, adopt improved technologies and move from subsistence to commercial agriculture. He noted that the Rural Finance and Community Improvement Programme (RFCIP) has helped establish a strong rural finance network capable of delivering inclusive financial services to farming communities.

According to the Minister, improved access to finance remains a cornerstone for increasing agricultural productivity, strengthening rural livelihoods and achieving the objectives of the Feed Salone Programme.

National Engagement Through Rural Farmers Radio

As part of the ministerial tour, Dr. Kpaka visited Rural Farmers Radio 98.9 FM in Kenema, where he engaged farmers and agricultural stakeholders nationwide through live radio discussions. Using the platform, the Minister explained the purpose of the tour, outlined activities planned for the second anniversary of Feed Salone, and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting farmers through rural finance, policy reforms and improved market access. He also highlighted the importance of community radio in amplifying farmers’ voices, improving information flow and strengthening accountability within the agricultural sector.

Strengthening Momentum Toward the Feed Salone Anniversary

As Sierra Leone prepares to mark two years of Feed Salone, the ministerial tour of RFCIP underscores the Government’s determination to consolidate gains and accelerate implementation. Dr. Kpaka called for stronger collaboration among farmers, financial institutions, government agencies and development partners to sustain progress. The engagement at Rural Farmers Radio reaffirmed a shared commitment to building an inclusive agricultural sector one where finance, communication and coordinated action work together to secure Sierra Leone’s food future.
